ABC News Nightline:  Knockout Ellen's Insights
Beethavean "Bee" Scottland died on July 3, 2001 from injuries that he suffered during a brutal boxing match in New York. Four years before his death, David Snider documented Bee's life, producing an intimate portrait of the young pugilist. Nightline broadcast Snider's footage in its report on July 9, 2001 on Scottland's death.   Ellen Bomer was an American Embassy staffer in Nairobi, Kenya, when she was gravely wounded by an Al-Qaida terrorist bombing. She barely survived but lost her sight. Ellen began the long road of rehabilitation and adaption to her blindness. Along the way, she became friends with Dr. Harold Snider, who guided Ellen and her husband Don as they became members of the America's blind community. ABC News Nightline broadcast Ellen's Insights on August 8 and August 9, 1999.

The mission of Firefly Children's Network is to improve the lives of Russian orphans who have been abandoned due to real or perceived disabilities. Through programs and partnerships, they address orphans' urgent needs for food, clothing, shelter and medical care, as well as provide their caregivers with training in medical and educational methodologies.   The Blind Faith School of Music and Art is a private non-profit performance community school for adults and children aged six and older who are blind or visually impaired. Their mission is to teach art through Braille literacy and Braille literacy through art. They provide dynamic, creative activities, including the amazing Mayster Braille Loom, which teaches Braille through weaving.

John McCarthy founded Elementary Baseball, a literacy, mentoring and baseball program for inner-city grade schools in Washington, D.C. He raised thousands of dollars to help children in the Domincan Republic by building baseball fields and developing a baseball/academic program at schools in San Pedro de Macoris.   Born in Tehran, Iran, the santur master Ostad Manoochehr Sadeghi is a leading virtuoso on the santur (Persian Hammered Dulcimer). His music is powerful, uplifting, and totally amazing.
